October Event Expected to be Largest Gathering of its Kind for The PHP Community and Corporate PHP User
Cupertino, Calif. – September 17, 2007 – Zend Technologies, Inc., the PHP company, today announced that Cory Doctorow, blogger, journalist and science fiction author who serves as co-editor of the blog Boing Boing, will keynote the third annual Zend/PHP Conference and Expo (ZendCon). Also keynoting at this year’s event is Joel Spolsky, editor of the popular Joel on Software blog and author of several popular books including his latest title Smart and Gets Things Done: Joel Spolsky’s Concise Guide to Finding the Best Technical Talent.
ZendCon, October 8-11, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, is set to be the largest PHP gathering of its kind. Both Cory and Joel will offer unique perspectives for the audience of people creating and working with PHP. Cory will explore how the collaborative efforts common in the open source community have begun to trickle into our everyday lives. Joel’s keynote will focus on the changing face of product and software development, delving into the importance of beauty, user happiness, and emotional impact of new software products.
Harold Goldberg, Zend’s CEO, will lead the opening keynote by highlighting -- through real-world examples – how PHP and Zend are enabling the community, customers and partners to unlock value trapped inside legacy systems. He'll talk about how the modern web is transforming traditional roles for developers, business users and the IT department.
Robert Picciano, vice president of information management sales at IBM, will talk about the intelligence emerging from the Internet and, more specifically, he will provide a glimpse into the vast possibilities of Web 2.0, information management and PHP technologies, with a focus on real demonstrations and the businesses behind them.
Rounding out the closing keynote, and offering a non-profit’s perspective, will be Premal Shah, president of Kiva.org, an organization built around the idea of helping entrepreneurs in developing countries connect with people willing to lend them seed capital. Their web based infrastructure is designed to help investors find projects that are interesting to them, and allow them to invest in the people behind them. Join Premal Shah as he talks about how he uses PHP to better the world, one business at a time.
ZendCon will also include dozens of sessions and case studies focusing on applying PHP technologies for business critical applications. Last year, at ZendCon 2006, numerous industry initiatives were introduced including the plans with Microsoft to improve PHP support for the Windows platform. Additional participants in the conference included Adobe, IBM, Google, Oracle, Facebook, eBay and MySQL. This year, Zend will also share details of new innovations for creating, deploying and managing applications that take advantage of PHP’s speed, scalability and simplicity.
